18th Century New England Tiger Maple Drop-Leaf Pembroke Table

$1,150.00

18th Century New England Tiger Maple Drop-Leaf Pembroke Table

A beautifully refined example of late 18th-century New England furniture making, this elegant drop-leaf table in spectacular figured tiger maple is a testament to the extraordinary natural beauty of American hardwoods and the restrained sophistication of the Federal period craftsman.

The richly figured maple — with its bold, rippling “tiger” figuring visible across both the top and the drop leaves — glows with a deep, warm amber patina developed over more than two centuries of careful use. The top is clean and flat, with gently rounded corners on the leaves, and the whole is raised on four elegantly tapered square legs that taper to spade feet — slender, precise, and perfectly proportioned.

The apron is plain and unadorned, allowing the extraordinary figure of the wood to speak entirely for itself. This is Federal-period design at its most pure — no unnecessary ornament, just flawless proportion, masterful construction, and wood of breathtaking natural beauty.

With one leaf raised and one dropped, the table presents beautifully as a side or console table. With both leaves raised it becomes a generous dining or center table — as versatile today as it was in the 18th century.

Key Features:

  • Circa 1780–1800, New England origin
  • Primary wood: highly figured tiger maple
  • Drop-leaf Pembroke form

🍂 When the wood itself is the masterpiece. This luminous 18th-century New England tiger maple drop-leaf table — its bold, rippling figure glowing like sunlight through amber — is two centuries of natural beauty and Federal-period elegance in one perfectly proportioned form. The kind of piece that stops you in your tracks every single time…
