American Federal Chest of Drawers — c. 1820–1850

$850.00

A handsome example of early American case furniture, this four-drawer chest speaks quietly of the craftsmanship that defined the Federal and early Victorian periods. Constructed in oak or chestnut with a warm honey tone deepened by nearly two centuries of natural aging, the piece retains the structural integrity and honest character that only time can produce.

Four graduated drawers are fitted with original — or period-appropriate — stamped brass knobs bearing an octagonal rosette motif, their aged patina a testament to generations of use. Turned bulb feet in a contrasting darker wood anchor the form with understated elegance. The case corners are joined with hand-cut dovetails, the slight irregularity of each tail a signature of pre-industrial American joinery.

Surface wear is consistent with age and entirely appropriate to the period — this is a piece that has lived, and shows it beautifully.

A versatile antique that reads equally well in a traditional interior, a collected farmhouse setting, or as a grounding counterpoint in a more contemporary room.
