Description
This is a magnificent antique Irish or Welsh pine dresser, dating to the early-to-mid 19th century, and a truly exceptional example of country house furniture at its finest. The upper section features three generous open plate shelves backed by a tongue-and-groove pine back, crowned with a bold cornice adorned with carved Gothic-inspired fretwork and a central cross motif — a charming and distinctive detail that sets this piece apart. Elegant scroll corbels flank the open rack on either side. The lower section comprises two geometrically carved frieze drawers with original iron ring pulls, above a pair of raised panel cupboard doors with matching ironwork. The warm, honeyed pine patina, developed over nearly two centuries, gives this dresser an incomparable depth and character that no reproduction could ever replicate.
