Description

A charming country-style pine chest of drawers, hand-decorated in the Victorian tradition of grain-painting: the case is finished to mimic a finer wood, with painted oval reserves of grapes and strawberries on each of the four drawer fronts. Turned wood knobs, a shaped apron, and hand-cut dovetailed drawers point to genuine period hand construction. The case sides carry the same grain-painted finish in a plain panel, without the fruit decoration reserved for the drawer fronts.

The reverse carries an old ink inscription, S J Robbins, Northport – likely a past owner’s name and its origin in Northport Maine. As with any piece this age, expect honest wear: notable surface scratching across the top from years of use, minor gaps at the drawer joints, and general wear consistent with well over a century of service. The original decorative paint survives in good, legible condition throughout.
