(SOLD) Charming Antique Pine Chest of Drawers w/Upper Tier Drawers

A particularly charming antique pine chest of drawers with the rare and highly practical addition of a fitted upper tier โ€” a small, raised two-drawer arrangement sitting proud of the main top, backed by a low gallery rail. This feature, sometimes referred to as a dressing chest configuration, was a common Victorian country bedroom piece and makes this example notably more useful and more interesting than a standard chest.

The upper section houses two small side-by-side drawers with turned knob handles and beaded front detail, perfect for jewellery, trinkets, or anything you’d want close to hand. The gallery back adds both structure and a pleasing visual frame. Below, three generously proportioned main drawers โ€” each fitted with a pair of turned wooden knobs and original escutcheon plates โ€” provide excellent everyday storage. The base features the characteristic bracket feet and shaped apron typical of Victorian country pine.

The chest has been stripped and sanded throughout, bringing the pine back to a clean, pale, even tone that shows off the natural figuring, knots, and grain beautifully. The drawer detail shots reveal traditional joinery construction, with the small upper drawers showing particularly crisp, hand-cut corner joinery โ€” a lovely indicator of age and quality.

A genuinely useful and characterful piece that would work equally well as a bedroom chest, a hallway statement, or even a bathroom vanity in the right setting.
