Description
Large Sterling Silver Soup Ladle — Gorham “Marie Antoinette” Pattern, 1890
A true masterpiece of American silversmithing, this magnificent soup ladle by Gorham Silver is a stunning example of the celebrated Marie Antoinette pattern, one of the most elaborately ornate designs ever produced by the legendary Providence, Rhode Island maker.
Dating to 1890 and crafted in solid sterling silver, the handle is a tour de force of Rococo Revival decoration — cascading scrolls, shells, and acanthus foliage swirl along its entire length, culminating in an elaborately chased finial cartouche. The generous, deep-bowled ladle bowl is beautifully proportioned for gracious table service.
At 12.5 inches in length and weighing a substantial 8.4 troy ounces, this is a serious, high-quality piece of antique American silver — heavy in the hand and impressive on the table.
