Description
A solid and well-proportioned antique Victorian pine chest of drawers, stripped back to reveal a warm, golden tone with the natural variation in grain and figuring that only comes with genuine age. Four full-width drawers offer excellent storage capacity, each fitted with a pair of turned wooden knob handles and retaining their original escutcheon plates — small but satisfying details that speak to the piece’s authenticity.
The top is particularly appealing, showing a beautifully knotted and figured surface with the characteristic nail-peg construction visible along the edges — a hallmark of honest Victorian country joinery. The drawer detail shot reveals the interior construction in full: hand-cut joints, the remnants of original paint or stain on the drawer sides, and the kind of robust, thick-timber build that has kept this piece standing for well over a century.
The base is finished with a generous, flowing scalloped apron — more elaborate than many comparable chests — running the full width between simple bracket feet, giving the piece a real lift and elegance at ground level.
