Spanish Revival Wrought Iron Torchère Floor Lamp with Tôle Bouillotte Shade — c. 1940s–1960s

$450.00

Bold, substantial, and full of character, this Spanish Revival wrought iron torchère is the kind of floor lamp that anchors a room rather than merely illuminating it. Production forged in the tradition of medieval European candlestands, the piece captures the romance of an earlier era while carrying the quality and weight of mid-century American craft.

The base extends to four heavily splayed legs in flat bar stock, each terminating in a distinctive bifurcated — or split — foot, a detail drawn from Gothic and Spanish Colonial architectural ironwork. The legs converge at a wrought iron cinching collar, above which paired scroll flourishes bridge the transition to the vertical shaft. A second decorative scroll collar at mid-shaft maintains the visual rhythm as the standard rises to a pierced drip pan collar and single candelabra socket fitted with its original pull-chain hardware.

Crowning the piece is a classic black tôle bouillotte shade with an urn-and-flame finial — a pairing that feels equally at home in a Spanish Colonial interior, a paneled library, or a maximalist living room that knows what it’s doing.

The patina throughout is rich and consistent: deeply oxidized iron, matte lacquered tin shade, cloth-wrapped cord.

Dimensions

  • Total Height (to top of finial): 64 in.
  • Shade Diameter: 19 in.
  • Base Spread (foot to foot): 21 in.

Condition Overall condition is very good and consistent with age. The iron base and shaft retain a rich oxidized surface with no active rust or structural issues. The tôle shade shows age-appropriate wear with minor surface patina to the painted finish — no significant dents or losses noted. Pull-chain socket intact; electrical components should be inspected by a qualified electrician before use. Cloth-wrapped cord present.
