(SOLD) 19th Century Cottage Pine Four-Drawer Chest circa 1860–1880

$0.00

A handsome antique pine chest of drawers, recently stripped and sanded to reveal the warm, honeyed tones of the natural wood beneath. This four-drawer chest features the classic form of a Victorian country piece — gently rounded top edges, turned wooden knob handles with a rich darker patina, original escutcheon plates on each drawer, and a characterful shaped apron running along the base with a scalloped skirt detail.

The solid pine construction is evident throughout, with wide-plank drawer fronts showing beautiful natural figuring, resin streaks, and the knots and grain variations that only come with genuine age. The drawer detail shot reveals traditional joinery at the sides — a mark of honest, hardwearing craftsmanship built to last generations.

The sanded finish has lifted the piece beautifully, giving it a clean, bright appearance while preserving all of its original character and patina. It would suit a bedroom, hallway, or living space equally well, This piece has been sealed with a clear varnish and can be waxed for a more softer look, or painted in a period-appropriate colour, or leave as-is for an unfussy aesthetic.

A versatile and genuinely useful antique with plenty of life left in it.
